“The moving reunion of ADF hostages with their families: a hint of hope in the heart of Ituri”

The moving reunion of former ADF rebel hostages with their families in Mambasa (Ituri)

Since Friday October 27 and Saturday October 28, around fifty former hostages of the ADF rebels have finally reunited with their families in several localities in the territory of Mambasa, in Ituri. Freed by the army during military operations against the ADF in Irumu territory, these ex-hostages experienced an emotional reunion.

Originally from localities such as Lwemba, Biakato and Mungazi, these ex-hostages were sent to the Sukola 1 operations headquarters in Beni for information before being able to join their families. A delegation made up in particular of the families of these hostages went to Beni to collect them aboard a truck secured by the FARDC.

The reunion between these former hostages and their families was intensely emotional. After weeks, even months, of forced separation, families were finally able to hug their loved ones. Scenes of joy and relief marked these unique moments.

These releases are the result of military operations carried out by the Congolese army against the ADF, a rebel group active in the Ituri region for many years. The actions of the armed forces made it possible to free a number of people taken hostage by these rebels, thus offering a glimmer of hope for the other hostages still held.

These reunions are an opportunity to recall the difficult situation in which many civilians find themselves in the Ituri region, taken hostage by armed groups and living in fear on a daily basis. It is crucial to continue supporting efforts to ensure the security of local populations and put an end to the activities of rebel groups that oppress them.

Beyond these reunions, it is essential to emphasize the need to provide adequate support and psychological monitoring to these former hostages and their families. The trauma experienced during their captivity requires special attention to help these people rebuild their lives and return to normal life.

In conclusion, the reunion between former ADF rebel hostages and their families in Mambasa marks a moment of relief and hope in a region plagued by insecurity. However, it is crucial to continue efforts to end the activities of armed groups and guarantee the security and well-being of local populations.
