Recent events at TRANSCO: Agents and managers on strike for non-payment of salaries and bonuses
The Congo transport company (TRANSCO) once again finds itself at the center of turbulent news. Last Friday, during a press conference in Kinshasa, TRANSCO agents and executives expressed their deep frustration with the non-payment of their salaries and bonuses which have been accumulating for several months.
Nelson Mudiwamba, executive secretary of the TRANSCO Inter-union, launched an urgent appeal to the government and the company’s management committee to quickly find a solution to this situation. Despite multiple letters addressed to the government, the workers have still not received a satisfactory response to their legitimate demands.
The social unease is palpable within TRANSCO, where agents feel wronged and abandoned. It is urgent that the government, the union and the employer come together around the table to find concrete solutions to the problems affecting workers.
Nelson Mudiwamba gave the government a 72-hour ultimatum. After this period, if no solution is found, a general meeting will be organized to allow agents to take charge of their situation.
This situation highlights the difficulties faced by many workers in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Late payment of wages is a recurring problem, which directly impacts the lives of workers and their families.
It is essential that the government takes rapid and effective action to remedy this situation. Workers deserve to be paid for their work, and it is the government’s responsibility to ensure this happens on time.
The situation at TRANSCO is a concrete example of the challenges faced by many workers in the country. It is imperative to find lasting solutions to guarantee decent working conditions and respect for workers’ rights.
In conclusion, it is crucial that the government listens to the demands of TRANSCO agents and executives and takes concrete measures to resolve late payments. Workers deserve to be treated with dignity and respect, and this includes paying their salaries and bonuses on time. Otherwise, the social situation risks deteriorating further, leading to harmful consequences for workers and the company itself.
