The week was marked by massacres perpetrated by a column of Rwandan army troops in eastern DRC. Florence Kapila speaks out about this situation, emphasizing that the attitude of tolerance towards these attacks can no longer be maintained. She believes that the DRC has the right and the duty to defend itself against this threat. According to her, unilateral observation of a ceasefire is counterproductive and it is time to respond to this aggression with a counterattack.
Florence Kapila also gives her opinion on the requests for invalidation of the candidates for the presidency of the Republic, in particular Moise Katumbi and Félix Tshisekedi. She underlines the importance of letting justice do its work while respecting the separation of powers. She believes that the invalidation of certain candidates aims to discredit the electoral process and calls for all candidates to be subject to the same criteria.
Concerning Alexis Tambwe Mwamba’s media outing on the nationality of Moise Katumbi, Florence Kapila believes that it is an attempt to destabilize the power in place. She points out that if Mr Mwamba really had evidence about Mr Katumbi’s nationality, he could have presented it when he was in power. According to her, this media outing reveals the flaws of the Congolese political class and highlights the clientelism and corruption that reign there.
Regarding the non-publication of provisional lists of voters by the CENI, Florence Kapila considers that it is important to display the electoral lists in each center in order to guarantee the right to vote for all Congolese citizens.
Florence Kapila also expresses her opinion on the new configuration of the DRC budget for the 2024 financial year. She deplores that the budget cannot follow the realities on the ground and underlines the need to make efforts so that the budgets are more and more realistic.
Finally, it addresses the strategic multi-sector plan to eliminate cholera in the DRC by 2027. It assesses the chances of feasibility of this plan, taking into account the conditions in which the Congolese population lives, in particular unsanitary conditions. She nevertheless encourages the efforts made and hopes that this plan will improve the health situation in the country.
