“Elections in the DRC: concerns and criticisms of the opposition regarding the organization and the results of the first mandate”

The general elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo are at the center of all concerns this year 2023. In an address to the Congolese population, Emmanuel Mutali Mwepu, national president of the political party “Activists for democracy, liberalism and federalism” (ADLF ), member of Lamuka, expressed his concern about the holding of elections scheduled for December 2023.

According to Mwepu, there is a strong chance that the elections will not be able to take place in peaceful conditions. He highlights the problem of voting machines which are not ready and which are not configured to receive municipal elections. He therefore invites the population to remain vigilant and ready to block any attempt at electoral fraud.

In addition, Mwepu highlights the proliferation of applications from non-indigenous people, particularly in the Greater Katanga region. He criticizes this practice which, according to him, undermines the representativeness of local populations.

As for the results of Félix Antoine Tshisekedi’s first five-year term, Mwepu does not mince his words. He points the finger at the president’s entourage, accused of embezzlement, cronyism and incompetence. He therefore calls on the population to sanction all perpetrators of embezzlement of public funds. He also invites President Tshisekedi to distance himself from this entourage incapable of supporting him objectively.

Mwepu also mentions the many promises not kept by President Tshisekedi, such as the Tshilejelu affair, the fall of Katende or the Kalambambuji road which have still not been achieved. It thus raises questions about the ability of funds allocated to projects of common interest to be used correctly, particularly in the president’s home province.

This statement from Emmanuel Mutali Mwepu highlights concerns and criticism regarding the organization of general elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo and the results of President Tshisekedi’s first term. It calls for the vigilance of the population and rectitude in the management of public affairs.
