Kananga-Mbuji Mayi road: accusations against the Egyptian group SAMCRETE Engenering rejected outright
The “Kananga-Mbuji Mayi” road construction file continues to arouse strong reactions. Following a press release from the General Inspectorate of Finance (IGF) requesting justification for the funds of more than 24 million USD allocated to the Egyptian group SAMCRETE Engenering for the construction of this road, the president of the company reacted strongly by rejecting all accusations against him. He also announced his intention to contact the competent authorities to defend his image tarnished by what he describes as the “populism” of the IGF.
In a previous article entitled “Dilapidated roads, kickbacks, influence peddling, abuse of power, etc.: F. Tshisekedi’s electoral campaign in danger in Kananga because of selfish interests”, we relayed the concerns of the inhabitants of Mbuji -Mayi and Kananga concerning the advanced state of degradation of National Road number 1 (RN1) in the Kasai Central province, following recent heavy rains.
It was the Egyptian group SAMCRETE Engenering which committed to building a 188 km road, linking Kananga to Mbuji-Mayi, with an expected lifespan of 50 years. The contract amount was set at 302 million USD, with a first deposit of 27 million USD planned to start the work.
However, to date, the work is blocked due to the ban on SOFIBANQUE from paying the deposit of 27 million USD. This ban was issued by the General Inspectorate of Finance (IGF).
The Egyptian group SAMCRETE Engenering reacted firmly, denying all the accusations made against it by the IGF. According to the company’s president, the IGF did not obtain the appropriate elements of the file and would have quickly jumped to conclusions. The president of SAMCRETE Engenering affirms that he will provide all the necessary explanations to restore the truth and preserve his image.
This file for the construction of the “Kananga-Mbuji Mayi” road therefore continues to generate a lot of ink. While the IGF demands justification for the funds allocated to the Egyptian group SAMCRETE Engenering, the company’s president vigorously defends himself against the accusations made against him. A case to be followed closely to know the outcome of this controversy and the future of the construction of this vital road for the region.
