Young people in Brazzaville are committed to a greener future
In an unprecedented movement, hundreds of young people from Brazzaville responded to the call of the NGO Brazzaville International Youth Leadership Forum (Bilyf) and planted hundreds of acacia seedlings along the Congo River. This initiative aims not only to increase the country’s green cover, but also to send a strong message to leaders around the world.
Indeed, these young demonstrators wish to draw the attention of the organizers of the Summit on the three major tropical forest basins of the world, which will be held in the Congolese capital from October 26 to 28. They want to make it clear that the issue of climate, climate change and the environment is of crucial importance for young people.
According to Précieux Massoumé, main leader of Bilyf, “by taking this action, we want to recall the importance of planting, of having a healthy environment, of having a green Congo, a green Africa and an even greener world.” These young people are aware that the future of the planet depends on their commitment and their concrete actions.
This initiative is supported by the National Afforestation and Reforestation Program (Pronar) as well as by the UN, which sees in it an opportunity to promote the Sustainable Development Goals, in particular Goal 13 which concerns the fight against changes climatic.
By planting these trees, the young people of Brazzaville also hope to raise awareness among participants of the Three Forest Basin Summit of the importance of preserving the environment and combating the consequences of climate change.
This symbolic action is an important step towards a more sustainable future. It shows that young people in Brazzaville are ready to take matters into their own hands and act for a greener world. Their commitment is an example to follow and should inspire other young people around the world to mobilize to protect our planet.
