Security in the DRC continues to be worrying, particularly in the North Kivu region where attacks by suspected ADF rebels regularly cause casualties. The latest tragedy took place on the night of October 23 in Oicha, capital of the Beni territory, where at least 26 people were killed.
The attackers burst into the neighborhoods of Pas Mal and Kafeza, where they carried out acts of extreme violence. A family of 7 members was brutally murdered in Pas Mal, while 8 other civilians were killed in Kafeza cell. Other victims were also recorded in the surrounding area.
Faced with this tragedy, the population of Oicha mobilized to express their anger and distress. The young people decided to take the bodies of the victims to the office of the territorial administrator, in order to demand justice and security. Tensions are at their height, and some acts of vandalism have even been reported, such as the burning of vehicles containing humanitarian aid intended for the displaced.
The situation in Oicha is therefore critical, with a climate of insecurity which paralyzes daily activities. Security forces and local authorities are trying to restore calm and take measures to protect the population. A reinforced military and police presence has been set up in the rural commune of Oicha.
These deadly attacks by ADF rebels once again raise the question of security in the DRC. The authorities must take strong measures to end this violence and protect civilians living in terror. The population, for its part, hopes to be able to return to normal life and go about their business in complete peace of mind.
Overall, it is essential to support efforts to stabilize the situation in North Kivu and ensure the safety of residents. The international community must provide support to the DRC to fight against armed groups and promote the development of the region. Only joint work by the Congolese authorities and the international community can put an end to this violence and guarantee a peaceful future for the population of the region.
