Article: Ukraine repels new Russian attack on Avdiivka, inflicting heavy losses on the enemy
Ukraine continues to resolutely defend the town of Avdiivka, located in the east of the country, which is the subject of incessant attacks by Russian forces. According to Ukrainian army reports, a new assault was repelled, inflicting “catastrophic losses” on the enemy.
In a report published on Facebook, the Ukrainian General Staff announced that the Russian army had lost nearly 900 men and 150 armored vehicles in just 24 hours in the Avdiivka region. These figures demonstrate the determination of Ukrainian troops to defend their position, despite the intensity of the attacks.
President Volodymyr Zelensky also confirmed this information in a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. He spoke of “failed offensive attempts” by the Russian army and accused them of suffering “catastrophic losses” in their attempt to take control of Avdiïvka.
The commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian forces, Valery Zaluzhny, visited the site to assess the situation. He highlighted the resistance of Ukrainian troops in the face of incessant enemy attacks and discussed defense tactics and priority needs of the units deployed there.
The town of Avdiivka is a major strategic issue, located just 13 km north of Donetsk, the self-proclaimed capital of the Donetsk People’s Republic controlled by Russian-backed forces. Since 2014, Avdiïvka has been almost constantly on the front line, and the population has declined significantly, from 30,000 before the war to just 1,600. The town was once an important industrial center, with a coking plant employing up to 4 000 people.
Despite the difficulties, Ukrainian forces continue to valiantly defend Avdiivka against Russian attacks. Ukraine’s determination to preserve its territorial integrity and resist Russian aggression is an example of courage and tenacity.
The situation in Avdiivka remains tense, and the Ukrainian army is preparing for possible Russian counter-offensives. However, through their resistance and determination, Ukrainian soldiers are showing the whole world that they are ready to defend their country and fight for Ukraine’s freedom and sovereignty.
