“The killing of a woman accused of theft: a barbaric act which calls for justice and security in the Kabare region”

The killing of a woman accused of theft in the Shuni village, in the Mudaka group, aroused indignation among civil society in the Kabare territory, in South Kivu. This barbaric act was strongly condemned by these local actors, who call on the population to favor recourse to justice to try the criminals.

According to information gathered, the victim was caught stealing from a residence in the area. Instead of handing her over to the proper authorities, she was subjected to severe torture which ultimately led to her death. Despite the alerts launched by certain witnesses, no intervention was undertaken to rescue her. The body of the alleged thief was left abandoned at the scene of the tragedy.

This sad affair highlights the need to trust in justice rather than taking justice into one’s own hands. The civil society of Kabare recalls that only justice is authorized to judge crimes and punish the guilty. Abandoning a person to a violent death without any trial is not only inhumane, but also against the law.

It is essential that the population is informed of their rights and aware of the importance of systematically resorting to justice in the event of an offense. Violence and impunity cannot be the answer to wrongdoing. Civil society therefore calls for awareness and education for all, in order to encourage more frequent recourse to justice to resolve conflicts.

The killing of this woman also raises questions about the state of security in the Kabare region. It is necessary for local authorities to strengthen measures to protect citizens and punish acts of violence appropriately. The population needs to feel safe and have confidence in the administration of justice.

In conclusion, it is essential to strongly condemn such acts of violence and to raise awareness among the population of the importance of recourse to justice. Vengeance cannot be the solution to resolving conflicts, and it is up to the authorities to guarantee the safety of citizens and enforce the law. Civil society in Kabare calls for collective awareness to end impunity and preserve human dignity.
