News of October 20, 2023: Appointments within the Army of the Democratic Republic of Congo
The President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Félix Tshisekedi, recently made appointments within the Congolese army. These decisions were announced during the broadcast of orders on Radiotélévision nationale congolaise (RTNC). Among the appointments were promotions to army general and lieutenant general.
Colonel Kapend Irung Eddy was elevated to the rank of army general and appointed commander of the 22nd Military Region of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC). Lieutenant General Tshiwewe Songesha Christian was also promoted to the rank of army general, while Major Generals Kasonga Tshibangu Léon-Richard and Ychaligonza Nduru Jacques were elevated to the rank of lieutenant general.
These appointments aim to strengthen the command and structure of the Congolese army in order to guarantee the security and stability of the country. President Tshisekedi continues his efforts to modernize and professionalize the armed forces of the DRC, by putting forward competent and experienced officers.
At the same time, President Tshisekedi also announced appointments within the Disarmament, Demobilization, Community Recovery and Stabilization Program (PDDRCS). Mr. Baala Opibale Lusheke Jean-Bosco was appointed national coordinator of the program, with Mr. Kapuku Bodo William at his side as deputy national coordinator in charge of technical and operational issues, and Mrs. Kayomo Sylvie as deputy national coordinator in charge of administrative issues and financial.
These announcements of appointments demonstrate President Tshisekedi’s commitment to strengthening national institutions, both in terms of security and that of the country’s socio-economic development. He thus continues to work to ensure a better future for the Democratic Republic of Congo.
