Candidates for the December 2023 presidential election in the Democratic Republic of Congo
The Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) recently announced the provisional list of candidates for the presidential election to be held in December 2023 in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Of the 24 applications received, only one woman is among the applicants. This diversity of candidates reflects the importance of this election and the desire of many candidates to break with the system of predation that has plagued the country.
Among the candidates, we find personalities of all ages and from all backgrounds. The oldest candidate is Georges Buse Falay, aged 77, while the youngest is Constant Mutamba, aged just 35. This generational diversity shows that politics in the DRC is open to all generations, each bringing a fresh perspective and innovative ideas.
The current President of the Republic, candidate for his own succession, says he wants to continue his work to develop the country. However, many candidates also propose ambitious programs for the future of the DRC. They emphasize the fight against corruption, improvement of infrastructure, education, health and well-being of the population.
In the coming days, the Constitutional Court will have to make its final decision on the admissibility of the applications. Once this decision is made, the CENI will publish the final list of candidates who will participate in the presidential election. This step is crucial to ensure a transparent and fair electoral process.
This presidential election in December 2023 in the DRC is therefore an opportunity for the country to choose a new leader or to renew its confidence in its current president. The issues are numerous and the population’s expectations are high. It is now up to the candidates to present their visions for a better future and convince voters of their ability to lead the country.
