“SICOMINES: Exemplary social actions serving the development of the Democratic Republic of Congo”

The social actions of SICOMINES in favor of the development of the Democratic Republic of Congo

Since its creation in the Democratic Republic of Congo, SICOMINES (Sino-Congolaise des Mines) has been committed to supporting the Congolese government in improving the well-being of the population and strengthening Sino-Congolese cooperation. Through its social actions, SICOMINES has brought significant changes to the lives of local populations, paying particular attention to education, infrastructure, access to drinking water and support for agriculture.

In the field of education, SICOMINES played a key role in building the first technical school in Kapata city, providing students with modern facilities and learning opportunities. In addition, school kits were distributed to students and practical sessions were organized at the company’s factories for students and teachers. At the same time, SICOMINES built a modern primary school in Yenge and rehabilitated a primary school in Kabulungu. Other primary schools will be built in the educational zone of the Luilu sector to accommodate more than 900 children.

Regarding road infrastructure, SICOMINES has undertaken the rehabilitation of the B6 and Mutaka dike in the Luilu sector in Kolwezi to resolve flooding and erosion problems. In addition, the Musonoi-Kapata road was rehabilitated to facilitate traffic and connect the Kapata district to Kolwezi city center. These initiatives have improved the quality of life of local populations and contributed to the economic development of the region.

SICOMINES also played a crucial role in access to drinking water by providing wells equipped with solar pumps in the villages of Luilu, Yenge, Mapendo and Biwaya. These water boreholes have helped improve the health of local populations by reducing water-borne diseases. In addition, SICOMINES supported farmers by providing them with agricultural inputs and working tools to promote sustainable and quality corn production.

Beyond the Lualaba province, SICOMINES has extended its social actions to other regions of the Democratic Republic of Congo. It financed the construction of the Busanga hydroelectric power station, located in the province of Lualaba, which helped to resolve the problem of electricity shortage in the region and to supply part of Greater Katanga with electricity. In addition, SICOMINES provided financial support to the provincial government of Lualaba for the repair of transformers and the purchase of electrical cables in order to improve electricity service.

In conclusion, SICOMINES, through its social actions, has demonstrated its commitment to the development of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Its support for education, infrastructure, access to drinking water and agriculture has had a significant impact on the lives of local populations and contributed to strengthening Sino-Congolese cooperation. These actions are a concrete example of the importance of corporate social responsibility in the sustainable development of a country.
