Title: RSF in action: Plea for the release of Stany Bujakera and training of journalists for the elections in the DRC

Introduction :
In a difficult context for the media in the Democratic Republic of Congo, a delegation from Reporters Without Borders (RSF) met with the Minister of Communication and Media, Patrick Muyaya, to plead in favor of the release of Stany Bujakera and request the charges against him and other detained journalists dropped. At the same time, RSF also discussed a project to train journalists to cover the electoral period, aimed at strengthening the reliability and credibility of information.

Plea for the release of Stany Bujakera:
Stany Bujakera, a journalist detained for two months, is at the heart of RSF’s concerns. The delegation expressed its clear position: drop all charges against him and release him immediately. RSF also called for charges against other journalists imprisoned in the DRC to be dropped. This action aims to protect press freedom and guarantee an environment conducive to the exercise of journalism in the country.

Training of journalists for elections:
The “Media – Elections” project developed by RSF aims to provide training and equipment to journalists to cover the electoral period in the DRC. RSF noted that elections are often accompanied by violence and attacks against journalists. Thus, the objective is to strengthen the safety of journalists by providing them with vests and first aid kits, while training them in election coverage. Emphasis is placed on the reliability and credibility of information to contribute to transparent and democratic elections.

A worrying situation for the media in the DRC:
The media situation in the DRC is difficult, with journalists imprisoned and attacks on press freedom. RSF, as an international organization defending freedom of expression and freedom of the press, is mobilized to support Congolese journalists and promote a healthy and free media environment. The actions carried out by RSF in the DRC aim to raise awareness among public opinion and the authorities on the importance of protecting journalists and guaranteeing their safety.

Conclusion :
The RSF delegation in the DRC called for the release of Stany Bujakera and the dropping of charges against the detained journalists. At the same time, a project to train journalists for the elections was discussed, with the aim of strengthening the reliability and credibility of information. RSF continues to support Congolese media and work to protect press freedom in the DRC.
