Launch of the electoral citizenship program: a promising initiative from the United States Embassy in the DRC
The United States Embassy in the Democratic Republic of Congo has announced the imminent launch of its electoral citizenship program. This initiative aims to promote a more peaceful, democratic and inclusive electoral process by raising awareness among young people of their rights and responsibilities as citizens. The launch ceremony will take place this Thursday, October 19 at the American cultural space of the Protestant University in Congo.
The United States Embassy’s electoral citizenship program intends to reach approximately 48,000 to 60,000 young people and young activists in thirteen provinces of the DRC, or approximately 4,000 per targeted region. Through a series of civic engagement activities, it encourages young people to get actively involved in the 2023 elections and beyond.
The implementation of this program will be carried out through the collaboration of American Spaces staff, former scholarship holders of the US Department of State exchange programs, as well as local partners such as authorities, education and awareness experts. of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI), higher education establishments and civil society.
