“The CCIK and ANSER are joining forces for the electrification of rural and peri-urban areas: a significant step towards the economic and social development of Kongo Central!”

The electrification of rural and peri-urban areas is a major challenge for economic and social development. It is with this in mind that the Kongo Central Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIK) and the National Agency for Electricity and Energy Services in Rural and Peri-urban Areas (ANSER) recently signed a cooperation agreement.

This alliance between the private sector and the energy sector aims to promote the electrification of areas outside large cities, where electricity needs are often greatest. According to the President of the CCIK, Felly Samuna, energy is an essential engine of development, and it is essential that Congolese investors get involved in this sector.

As part of this agreement, the CCIK plans to create a provincial electricity production and distribution company, in collaboration with the governor of Kongo Central province. The objective is to encourage the creation of micro-industries through rural electrification, notably using micro-dams. This initiative is part of the development program for 145 territories launched by the Congolese Head of State, which aims to stimulate the economic development of rural regions.

ANSER, for its part, is committed to supporting private initiatives in the field of electrification in rural and peri-urban areas. This agency offers administrative support to private companies, particularly in obtaining the necessary documents. In addition, ANSER has a Mwinda Fund to finance electrification projects when the cost of the kilowatt produced on the ground exceeds the financial capacity of households. This aid aims to guarantee the profitability of electrical installations while ensuring access to electricity for as many households as possible.

The Democratic Republic of Congo faces a major challenge in terms of electrification, with a penetration rate of only 3% in rural areas and 30% in urban areas. By promoting private initiatives, the country could increase its electrification capacity, both in rural areas and in urban centers, thus contributing to economic development and the well-being of populations.

This agreement between the CCIK and ANSER represents a significant step forward in promoting the electrification of rural and peri-urban areas. It demonstrates the importance of collaboration between the private sector and government organizations to address energy challenges and promote economic development in the most remote regions. Thanks to private investments and initiatives like this, access to electricity is becoming a reality for a growing number of people, opening new perspectives for the future of Kongo Central and the Democratic Republic of Congo whole.
