Industrial partnerships for the production of food salt in the DRC are coming to fruition with the Korean company PRESEAOS. Under the leadership of the general director of the Industry Promotion Fund (FPI), Bertin Mudimu Tshisekedi, agreements were signed for the upcoming installation of a cooking salt manufacturing plant in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
This project aims to produce a salt rich in minerals obtained from the condensation of seawater, unlike traditional salt composed mainly of sodium chloride. This innovation will make it possible to produce superior quality salt, with exceptional flavor and balanced mineral proportions.
In addition to the taste benefits, this local production of cooking salt will help reduce dependence on imports, which represents an economic advantage for the Congolese government. In addition, the technology used by PRESEAOS to extract the salt is revolutionary. After years of research and development, the Korean company has developed a three-dimensional vertical mining process, eliminating the limitations of traditional mining methods.
Thanks to this innovative process, salt production will be automated throughout the year, regardless of weather and space conditions. As a result, the yield will be 20 times higher than traditional methods. In addition, this technology will help circumvent issues such as space occupancy, climate disruption, plastic microparticles and staffing requirements.
The collaboration between FPI and PRESEAOS came to fruition thanks to the contacts of Professor Nkumu Frey, vice-rector of Sun Moon University, who facilitated the exchange of skills between the Democratic Republic of Congo and South Korea. The Congolese delegation also had the opportunity to visit other Korean industries, such as the COS NINE cosmetics industry and a research center specializing in Buildings Integrating Photovoltaic and BIPV Systems.
This strategic partnership between the DRC and South Korea opens new perspectives for the development of Congolese industry. Local production of premium quality edible salt will contribute to the country’s economic growth while meeting consumer needs. Thanks to this collaboration, the DRC will be able to assert itself on the international scene as a producer of innovative and quality cooking salt.
