The cry of alarm from the displaced from Bwito to Bambo: an SOS launched for humanitarian aid

In a critical and desperate situation, the displaced people of Bwito in Bambo, territory of Rutshuru in the province of North Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo, are launching an urgent appeal to the government and humanitarian organizations. These thousands of displaced people live in difficult conditions, lacking everything in a context of clashes between the M23 rebel group and local militiamen.

A human rights activist, preferring to remain anonymous for security reasons, testified to the desperate situation in which these displaced people find themselves. The locality of Bambo is overcrowded, welcoming displaced people from different regions, such as Tongo, Marangara, Kisangani, Busenene and Kabizo. Some are hosted by host families, others are installed in schools in the region, transformed into temporary shelters. But all are severely lacking in resources and support.

The difficulty for humanitarians to access the Bambo area and provide the necessary aid aggravates the precarious situation of the displaced. Only the NGO Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is present in the region, providing medical support to the hospital and the Bambo health zone. However, this remains insufficient to meet the crying needs of these thousands of displaced people.

Recent fighting has led to an additional influx of displaced people, adding to those who had already been present in Bambo for several months. Some displaced people, coming from Lubwe-South and North, were neglected and never received assistance.

Faced with this humanitarian emergency, it is essential that the government and humanitarian organizations react quickly to provide concrete assistance to these displaced people. Measures must be taken to ensure their safety, provide them with adequate shelter, food, clean water, medical care and psychosocial support.

It is also vital to establish an effective communication bridge between local authorities, humanitarian actors and the displaced population to coordinate efforts and ensure appropriate and sustainable assistance.

In conclusion, the situation of displaced people from Bwito to Bambo is explosive and requires urgent intervention. It is time for all stakeholders to mobilize to alleviate the suffering of these thousands of displaced people and offer them a safer and more stable future. Their voice must be heard and their plight must not remain in the shadows. It is our collective responsibility to respond to this call for help and do everything possible to help these displaced people in distress.
