News: Martin Fayulu challenges the CENI’s decision not to display the electoral lists
In the Congolese political landscape, a new controversy is raging as opponent Martin Fayulu challenges the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) not to display the voters’ lists on the air. This decision, announced in a press release on October 5, sparked strong reactions among the various stakeholders.
According to the CENI, this measure was taken due to the lack of space as well as to avoid any sabotage or loss of electoral files in the event of bad weather. Instead, it suggests the presence of an agent on site to inform voters and allow them to verify their names.
However, Martin Fayulu and other political actors believe that this decision contravenes article 6 paragraph 2 of the electoral law which stipulates that the CENI must publish the provisional list of voters by polling center, indicating the polling station. According to them, any other form of partial communication of information to voters constitutes an unacceptable violation of the law.
It should be remembered that Martin Fayulu had previously denounced the lack of transparency regarding the electoral register and had even threatened not to present his candidacy if a new audit of the register was not carried out. However, he eventually abandoned this approach.
This controversy surrounding the display of electoral lists highlights the issues of transparency and trust in the electoral process in the Democratic Republic of Congo. As the presidential elections approach, it is essential to ensure that all necessary measures are taken to ensure a fair and democratic electoral process.
