Title: Training of journalists in the DRC for the fight against malaria: a commitment to save lives
Introduction :
Malaria is a deadly disease that continues to wreak havoc in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). To combat this epidemic, around twenty journalists recently participated in a training workshop organized by the National Malaria Control Program (PNLP) and the NGO Impact Santé Afrique. This initiative aims to strengthen awareness and mobilization of local communities to end malaria in the country. At the end of this training, the journalists signed a charter of commitment to support the NGO in its mission to fight this devastating disease.
Malaria in the DRC: A major public health challenge
The Democratic Republic of Congo is one of the countries most affected by malaria in Africa and in the world. With more than 27 million cases in 2022 and nearly 25,000 deaths, this disease remains the leading cause of morbidity, hospitalization and mortality, particularly among children under 5 and pregnant women. Faced with this major public health challenge, it is essential to strengthen awareness and prevention, particularly in the most exposed communities.
Training journalists: A key role in the fight against malaria
Journalists have a vital role to play in raising awareness and mobilizing populations against malaria. Their ability to communicate effectively and reach a wide audience makes them key players in the dissemination of information on the prevention, early diagnosis and treatment of malaria. This is why this training workshop, organized by the PNLP and Impact Santé Afrique, is of capital importance to strengthen their knowledge and skills in this area.
During the training, journalists were informed about the latest advances in the fight against malaria, prevention strategies and available treatments. They were also made aware of the most vulnerable populations, such as children and pregnant women, and of the measures to take to reduce the impact of this disease. Additionally, participants were encouraged to become community relays, disseminating information through their respective media and actively engaging in raising awareness in their communities.
A strong commitment to end malaria
At the end of the training, each journalist signed a charter of commitment, pledging to support the actions of the NGO Impact Santé Afrique to end malaria in the DRC. This commitment marks their desire to actively contribute to the fight against this deadly disease, by disseminating quality information, raising awareness among populations and encouraging the adoption of preventive behaviors.. Journalists are now valuable allies in the fight against malaria and will play a key role in disseminating vital information to save lives.
Conclusion :
Training journalists in the DRC to fight malaria is a crucial step in the fight against this deadly disease. Journalists play an essential role in raising awareness and mobilizing populations, by disseminating quality information and encouraging the adoption of preventive behaviors. Their strong commitment through the signing of the commitment charter shows their determination to actively contribute to the fight against malaria in the DRC. Together we can end this epidemic and save lives.
