The “United for Peace and Security” project launched by the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense and Veterans Affairs, Jean-Pierre Bemba, aroused great enthusiasm during its launch in Kinshasa. Funded by the European Union to the tune of 29.6 million euros, this program aims to support the reform of the Congolese armed forces and promote peace and security in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The context of this project is marked by the aggression that the DRC suffered from Rwanda, through the M23 rebel group. Jean-Pierre Bemba underlines that this aggression is part of a diabolical plan by the Rwandan government aimed at sabotaging the DRC’s stability and development efforts, as well as the rise in power of its armed forces. He affirms that the Congolese people and the armed forces will emerge victorious from this fight against terrorist and negative forces.
The “United for Peace and Security” program will cover several cities in the DRC, including Kinshasa, Kananga, Ituri and North Kivu. It will focus on key areas such as the implementation of the Armed Forces Reform Plan, the modernization of Defense administration, strengthening accountability and the link between the armed forces and the population, as well as supporting and the protection of civilian populations, particularly women and vulnerable groups, in conflict zones.
This major project is part of a desire to strengthen governance and the rule of law, to fight against impunity and corruption, and to promote just and lasting peace in the DRC. Collaboration with international partners such as the Belgian Development Agency (Enabel) and Expertise France demonstrates the commitment of the international community to stability and security in the region.
The launch of this project marks an important step in the implementation of reforms and efforts to achieve lasting peace in the DRC. It also constitutes an opportunity for the country to strengthen its military capabilities and promote socio-economic development, in a context where security remains a major concern for the government and the Congolese population.
In conclusion, the “United for Peace and Security” project brings hope for a more stable and secure DRC. Through concrete actions and international cooperation, it aims to strengthen the Congolese armed forces and promote peace and security. This initiative marks a new stage in efforts to build a better future for the Congolese population and guarantee the country’s sovereignty in the face of external threats.
