Title: Community policing reform in the DRC: a new era of security

Introduction :

In a constantly evolving world, security issues are essential. In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), reform of the community policing sector is at the heart of concerns. With the objective of strengthening security and meeting the needs of the population, the provincial police station of the Congolese National Police (PNC) of the province of Équateur recently received computer equipment for its training center. This initiative marks the start of a new era of community policing in the region.

Capacity Building :

Thanks to this provision of equipment, including computers, laptops, printers and many others, the community police training center will be able to improve its capabilities and its working methods. These modern tools will allow police officers to benefit from quality training, focused on new technologies and best security practices.

Community police training:

At the same time, nearly 150 police officers from the Équateur province will soon be trained in community policing, in the locality of Lyonda, located 12 km from downtown Mbandaka. This training, lasting 6 months, aims to strengthen the skills of police officers in their relationship with the local population. The trainers, who have just completed their trainer training in Mbandaka, will bring their expertise and experience in this crucial area.

Professional ambitions and development:

Beyond this training, the Police Reform Support Program in the DRC (PARP 3) declares that it has professional ambitions in the province of Équateur. In addition to the construction of the provincial police station, other sub-station construction projects are planned in the region. These infrastructures will strengthen the police presence and contribute to the stability and development of the commune of Wangata and the locality of Wedjisecli.

Conclusion :

The reform of the community policing sector in the DRC is an important step towards improving security and consolidating trust between the population and the police. Thanks to the provision of computer equipment and the training of police officers, the province of Équateur is equipped with the necessary means to meet security challenges and offer quality service to the population. This approach demonstrates the Congolese government’s commitment to the security and well-being of its citizens.
