News: Meeting of the Economic Situation Committee chaired by Prime Minister Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde
On Wednesday October 11, Prime Minister Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde chaired the meeting of the Economic Situation Committee at the Prime Minister’s Office in Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The objective of this meeting was to review the economic situation, both internationally and nationally.
During this meeting, economic instability was noted at the global level, notably due to Hamas’s attacks against the State of Israel, which led to an increase in the price of oil. At the national level, the exchange rate of the Congolese franc against the dollar remains relatively stable, as does the inflation rate.
The discussions also addressed the need to diversify the Congolese economy in order to achieve lasting macroeconomic stability. For this, the participation of women is crucial, as evidenced by the dominance of the female presence at this meeting.
However, some government members were absent from the meeting as they were attending international events. The Minister of Finance and the Minister of Budget were present at the Annual Meetings of the IMF and the World Bank, which are taking place in Morocco. The Minister of Economy represented the Congolese government at the Canada-Africa Economic Forum in Toronto.
This meeting of the Economic Situation Committee demonstrates the importance that the Congolese government attaches to the economic situation of the country. By analyzing national and international factors and seeking solutions for economic diversification, the government is positioning itself to promote stable and sustainable growth of the Congolese economy.
