“Historic meeting between Presidents Tshisekedi and Oligui Nguema: a step towards peace and stability in Central Africa”

The President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Félix Tshisekedi, recently met General Brice Oligui Nguema, President of the transition of the Republic of Gabon, during a meeting lasting more than two hours. According to the Presidency of the DRC, the discussions focused on issues related to the two countries as well as the region of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS).

The objective of this visit was mainly to discuss issues of peace and security, as well as the climate. Indeed, a conference on the Congo Basin is planned in Brazzaville, and General Oligui Nguema expresses his intention to participate with the support of President Tshisekedi.

The question of the transition in Gabon was also addressed during this meeting. The President of the Gabonese transition requested the support of President Tshisekedi to support the reintegration of Gabon into the international community. He wants his country to regain its place in the concert of nations and to be accepted by the international community.

Furthermore, the two interlocutors discussed the next elections which will be held in the DRC next December. General Oligui Nguema expressed his wish to see these elections take place in a peaceful climate and that social peace be maintained during this particular period.

Before his visit to the DRC, the President of the transition of Gabon toured Guinea-Bissau, the Republic of Congo and the Central African Republic (CAR). This series of trips aims to raise awareness among regional leaders and obtain their support for Gabon’s reintegration into the international community, suspended since last August.

This meeting between Presidents Tshisekedi and Oligui Nguema demonstrates the importance of bilateral relations between Congo and Gabon, as well as the Congolese President’s commitment to peace and stability in the Central African region. . The discussions made it possible to address crucial subjects such as security, regional cooperation and political transition.
