The electoral process is a crucial stage in a country’s democracy. To ensure the transparency and integrity of elections, it is essential to train key actors involved in the voting and counting process. It is with this in mind that the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) launched the first series of training for members of polling and counting stations (MBVD) as well as members of local results compilation centers (MCLCR) for the polls of December 20, 2023.

This training, which takes place at the Caritas Congo Center, is essential to guarantee the smooth running of electoral operations. It aims to enable participants to master the procedures for voting, counting and tabulating ballots, as well as the use of the Electronic Voting Device (DEV) and the completion of the necessary forms. In total, 197 procedural specialists and as many IT specialists from CENI headquarters are participating in this training, supervised by 26 expert facilitators.

During the launching ceremony, the President of the CENI, Denis Kadima Kazadi, underlined the importance of this training and the interest it has for the organization of the elections of December 20, 2023. He reminded the participants of their crucial role as members of the CENI and urged them to work with conscience and responsibility. He also encouraged them not to let themselves be influenced by political and social actors, stressing that their priority is to serve the general interest and ensure the transparency of the electoral process.

The training, which will last 10 days, will be followed by three other stages in the CENI branches spread across the 26 provinces of the Democratic Republic of Congo. This training cascade will provide the CENI with operational and competent staff, capable of providing quality service during future elections.

In conclusion, training members of polling and counting stations as well as local results compilation centers is an essential step in the electoral process. It guarantees the transparency and integrity of elections and helps ensure voter confidence in the democratic process. The CENI is doing everything it can to train its staff in a rigorous and professional manner, in order to guarantee free, fair and credible elections on December 20, 2023.
