“The Kolwezi Concrete Expo: towards a sustainable future for the mining town”

The 7th edition of the Concrete Expo opened its doors this Monday, October 2 in Kolwezi, in the Lualaba province in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Under the theme “Kolwezi, eldorafo of the southern DRC-SADC corridor”, this exhibition aims to promote the diversification of the economy of the mining town and to implement an environmentally friendly urbanization plan.

For four days, experts from different fields, such as mining and the environment, come together to present and discuss various themes. Emphasis is placed on the need for peaceful cohabitation between mining operators and the local population, while ensuring that environmental standards are respected.

This initiative is of paramount importance for the town of Kolwezi, which mainly depends on mining. By diversifying its economy, the city will be able to reduce its dependence on this volatile sector and create new employment opportunities for residents. Additionally, a well-thought-out urbanization plan will help prevent problems related to uncontrolled urban growth, such as pollution, congestion and housing problems.

The Concrete Expo also offers a platform for exchange and sharing of knowledge between the different actors involved. Technical discussions and demonstrations provide opportunities to discover new technologies and practices in the field of concrete construction, thereby promoting innovation and improving quality standards.

Ultimately, this 7th edition of the Concrete Expo represents an important step towards the sustainable development of the city of Kolwezi. With a focus on economic diversification and responsible urbanization, this exhibition aims to create a better future for the region’s inhabitants, while preserving the environment and promoting harmonious cohabitation between the mining industry and the community local.
