The Kasomeno-Kasenga-Chalwe-Mwenda road: a catalyst for economic development and connectivity in the DRC and Zambia

The Kasomeno-Kasenga-Chalwe-Mwenda road: a major step forward for connectivity in the DRC and Zambia

The Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia recently inaugurated works on the Kasomeno-Kasenga-Chalwe-Mwenda road, marking a major breakthrough in connectivity between these two African countries. This large-scale infrastructure project, lasting three years, aims to facilitate trade and improve the living conditions of local populations.

The Kasomeno-Kasenga-Chalwe-Mwenda road constitutes an essential link between the Haut-Katanga province in the DRC and Zambia. In addition to the construction of a 350-meter bridge, the project includes the creation of a 92.2-kilometer two-lane road, the construction of a single border post between the two countries, as well as the establishment toll stations at Chalwe and Kasenga. These infrastructures will significantly reduce travel time between Lubumbashi and Dar-es-Salaam, facilitate customs clearance of goods and promote trade between the DRC and Zambia.

In addition to its impact on connectivity and trade, this project is also of social importance for local populations. Indeed, the construction of the road will improve the living conditions of residents by facilitating access to basic services such as drinking water and social infrastructure. In addition, the implementation of social projects such as the construction of new roads in Kasenga and the creation of a modern city for displaced families will contribute to improving the living environment in the region.

This infrastructure project is financed by the economic development company (GED) and supervised by the Congolese Agency for Major Works (ACGT). It demonstrates the desire of the Congolese and Zambian governments to promote the economic and social development of the region, by promoting connectivity and trade.

The launch of work on the Kasomeno-Kasenga-Chalwe-Mwenda road is part of an official visit by the President of the DRC, Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, to the Haut-Katanga province. This visit is marked by the inauguration of several infrastructures and the launch of large-scale projects aimed at stimulating the development of the region.

In conclusion, the construction of the Kasomeno-Kasenga-Chalwe-Mwenda road constitutes an important step in the development of infrastructure and connectivity in the DRC and Zambia. This project will facilitate trade, improve the living conditions of local populations and stimulate economic development in the region. It demonstrates the desire of the Congolese and Zambian governments to promote sustainable development and regional integration.
