“Launch of the PRODAN Program in the DRC: a promising solution to reduce poverty and improve food security”

The Congolese government is organizing a technical workshop for the launch of the Ngandanjika Agro-Industrial Development Support Program (PRODAN). This program, financed to the tune of USD 400 million with the support of the African Development Bank (AfDB), aims to reduce poverty and improve food security in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Ngandanjika, a region in Lomami province, will be the main beneficiary of PRODAN. The objective is to develop infrastructure and encourage investment by the private agro-industrial sector. The program also aims to support the implementation of a national policy for the development of agro-industrial parks in 22 provinces of the country. The ambition is to stimulate annual growth in the agricultural sector by more than 6% in order to reduce poverty.

The workshop aims to reflect on how to implement PRODAN on the ground in order to ensure its success. The Minister of Agriculture, José Mpanda, insisted on the importance of taking action and not leaving this program in the drawers.

This project is a response to the challenges facing the DRC in terms of agricultural development and food security. It is part of a desire to promote agro-industry and provide quality food products to the country’s markets.
