“Training of Congolese police officers in Bunia to secure elections: Strengthen capacities to guarantee free and secure ballots”

Training of Congolese police officers in Bunia on securing the upcoming elections

As part of the preparation for elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), at least 30 Congolese police officers based in Bunia, in the province of Ituri, received training on securing elections. This training, which began last September and will continue until December, aims to strengthen the capacities of local police officers in order to ensure security during the next elections.

The information was confirmed by Ingrid Cataldo, head of public information for the MONUSCO police (United Nations Stabilization Mission in the DRC). As part of her visit to Bunia, she stressed the importance of highlighting the achievements of the MONUSCO police and showing the population the work carried out in terms of training and logistical support.

This training aims to make the Congolese police autonomous in securing elections and to strengthen the population’s confidence in the police. Last September, MONUSCO had already trained 18 police officers from the Bunia Civil Protection Unit as firefighters, in order to be able to intervene in the event of a fire and protect the population.

Securing elections is a major issue in the DRC, where the electoral process is often marked by tension and violence. The training of local police officers is therefore essential to guarantee free and transparent elections, and to ensure the safety of citizens during this crucial period.

This Congolese police training initiative is a concrete example of the commitment of MONUSCO and the international community in supporting democracy in the DRC. By strengthening the skills of law enforcement and making them autonomous, it is hoped that the upcoming elections will take place in a more peaceful climate and that the population will be able to exercise their right to vote in complete security.

It is essential to emphasize the importance of raising public awareness of these training efforts and highlighting the concrete results obtained. Effective communication will allow the population to better understand and appreciate the work accomplished by MONUSCO and the Congolese authorities to ensure security during the elections. This will help to strengthen citizen confidence in the electoral process and encourage more active participation by the population.

In conclusion, the training of Congolese police officers in Bunia on securing the upcoming elections is an important step in preparing the electoral process in the DRC. By strengthening the skills of law enforcement and ensuring their autonomy, this initiative aims to guarantee free, fair and secure elections.. It is essential to highlight these actions among the population in order to strengthen confidence in the electoral process and encourage active citizen participation.
