Reappointment of Jean-Pierre Bemba at the head of the MLC and support of Félix Tshisekedi for the presidential election of December 20
The political party Movement for the Liberation of Congo (MLC) recently held its fourth congress of the Council of Representatives in Kinshasa, on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of its creation. During this event, Jean-Pierre Bemba was reappointed as party leader for a five-year term.
In his speech, Jean-Pierre Bemba reaffirmed the MLC’s membership in the Sacred Union of the Nation, an initiative launched by President Félix Tshisekedi to give new impetus to the management of the country. He also announced that the MLC would unreservedly support the candidacy of Félix Tshisekedi in the presidential election scheduled for December 20.
The MLC expressed its commitment to supporting the political institutions and decision-making bodies of the country, in order to promote the integral development of the DRC and to respond to the deep aspirations of the Congolese people in terms of sovereignty, territorial integrity, State of law, democracy and prosperity.
Among the party’s objectives for the coming years, Jean-Pierre Bemba stressed the need to continue efforts to pacify and stabilize the eastern part of the country, by putting an end to the negative forces that threaten the region. He said he was counting on the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC), the security services and the Congolese National Police (PNC) to achieve this objective.
The MLC also supports the project of diversifying the economy of the DRC, by reducing its dependence on the mining sector and by promoting the agricultural potential of the country. The objective is to achieve and maintain double-digit economic growth, in order to create more opportunities for the Congolese people.
This reappointment of Jean-Pierre Bemba at the head of the MLC and the support shown for the candidacy of Félix Tshisekedi illustrate the party’s desire to continue to play an active role in the Congolese political scene. Their commitment to development, pacification and economic diversification demonstrates their vision for the future of the DRC.
