Bangladeshi and Moroccan peacekeepers in the DRC: Recognition for their commitment and professionalism!

Article: MONUSCO news: Recognition for Bangladeshi and Moroccan peacekeepers at the end of their mission in the DRC

The United Nations peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO) recently praised the commitment and professionalism of the Bangladeshi and Moroccan peacekeepers who served in its air contingents. A recognition medal ceremony took place in Bunia, in the province of Ituri, to honor these soldiers at the end of their mission.

The contribution of the Bangladeshi and Moroccan air contingents was essential for the execution of MONUSCO’s mandate in the provinces of North Kivu, South Kivu and Ituri. Under the supervision of General Benoît Chavanat, deputy commander of MONUSCO forces, these peacekeepers provided logistical support to peacekeeping troops as well as the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC).

The helicopters deployed by the contingents played a crucial role in the resupply of ammunition, food and fuel, as well as the medical evacuation of injured or sick soldiers. Their permanent availability made it possible to ensure daily support operations for the FARDC and to respond to the urgent logistical and operational needs of the peacekeeping mission.

A total of 142 peacekeepers, including 119 Bangladeshis and 23 Moroccans, were honored during the medal ceremony. These soldiers spent a year on mission in Ituri, and others will quickly take over to continue to ensure security and stability in the region.

The presentation of these recognition medals demonstrates the UN’s appreciation of the operational commitment and exemplary nature of the Bangladeshi and Moroccan peacekeepers in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Their professionalism and dedication deserve to be highlighted, as they actively contribute to the consolidation of peace and the protection of civilian populations in conflict zones.

MONUSCO will continue to work closely with the contingents of Bangladeshi and Moroccan peacekeepers, as well as the Congolese authorities, to promote security, stability and socio-economic development in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The recognition of their work is a source of motivation for these committed soldiers, who will continue to defend the values of the UN and work for peace in the country.
