The French Institute of Kinshasa: an essential cultural hub in the heart of the Congolese capital

The French Institute of Kinshasa, a true temple of arts and culture, is an emblematic place in the artistic scene of the Congolese capital. For more than 20 years, this institute has offered a space conducive to the creativity and development of Kinshasa artists in all fields: sculpture, comics, painting, photography, dance, cinema, theater, music and slam.

This year, the French Institute of Kinshasa unveiled a rich and diverse program for the last quarter of 2023, during a press morning marking the start of a new season. Beyond the activities organized by the institute itself, several festivals will also enrich the cultural programming.

Among these events, the Kinshasa Piano Festival will feature French pianist Christophe Chassol, who will perform on October 5 at the Grande Halle. On October 21, the closing evening of the Kinshasa international film festival will also take place at the French Institute of Kinshasa. Dance lovers will not be left out, since a festival entirely dedicated to breakdancing will be held on November 2 and 3.

At the same time, the French Institute of Kinshasa will also host exhibitions by renowned artists. Photographers Angello Turconi and Gosette Lubondo will present their works from October 19 to November 18, while painter Prisca Tankwey will take over the exhibition room from December 7 to 16 with an artistic reflection on the architecture of the city of Mbanza- Ngungu.

Cinema will also be in the spotlight with the screening of six films throughout the quarter. Comedy evenings are planned for October 12 and 13 as part of Montreux Comedy, offering a showcase for African humor talents.

In addition to these artistic events, the French Institute of Kinshasa will also offer scientific meetings and conferences, as well as digital-focused activities. Slam workshops, musical sessions, acrobatic performances, children’s stories, book presentations and a reading club will complete this rich program.

The French Institute of Kinshasa is a true cultural crossroads that promotes exchange, artistic expression and mutual enrichment. Thanks to its diversity of events and its support for local artists, it fully contributes to the influence of Congolese art.

In short, the French Institute of Kinshasa is an essential place for all lovers of art and culture, offering a varied and stimulating program throughout the year. Whether through festivals, exhibitions, film screenings or artistic meetings, this institute is a real engine of dynamism and creativity at the heart of Kinshasa’s cultural scene.
