Kasaï-Oriental: The suspension of the “Jeton” tax relieves motorcycle drivers

Suspend the “Token” tax on motorcyclist drivers, Kasaï-Oriental government decision

The provincial government of Kasai-Oriental recently made a decision that arouses the interest of many motorcycle drivers. In fact, the tax called “Token”, which was collected from these drivers, was suspended by the authorities.

This decision was motivated by the fact that the “Token” tax is not part of the nomenclature and is not governed by any law or edict. Acting Governor Julie Kalenga stressed that this term was wrongly used by public officials and taxpayers, even though it had no legal basis.

In a statement, Julie Kalenga explained the reasons for this suspension: “For some time, the term token has been used in the language of public officials and even taxpayers called Motorcyclist, while this term is not established by any law, no edit. This is why, I have decided to abolish this practice at all levels (Province, Town Hall, Municipality, Chiefdom and Sector). To this end, I order all the services concerned to mobilize revenues (…) Good work will be rewarded and poor performance will be rewarded.”

The move is welcomed by many motorcycle drivers, who view the tax as unfair and unregulated. However, it is important to note that Julie Kalenga also called on the population to fulfill their tax obligations in order to enable the province to face current challenges.

This suspension of the “Jeton” tax is part of the efforts of the provincial government of Kasai-Oriental to clean up the tax system and put an end to illegal practices. The population hopes that this measure will be followed by other actions aimed at improving transparency and tax fairness.

In conclusion, the suspension of the “Jeton” tax by the provincial government of Kasaï-Oriental is an important decision for motorcycle drivers in the region. This shows the authorities’ desire to put an end to illegal practices and to promote a more transparent and equitable tax system. Let us remain attentive to the next measures taken by the government in this area.
