“Citizen primaries in the DRC: The ACN platform opens the way to a new Congo”

The DRC faces a predatory system of governance that favors the particular interests of Congolese politicians, to the detriment of the well-being of the population. A large part of the Congolese political class is engaged in a system of predation which threatens the development and stability of the country.

To combat this situation, actors from citizen movements and civil society launched an innovative initiative called “Alternative for a New Congo” (ACN). This platform brings together civil society organizations, citizen movements, political organizations and independent personalities, all driven by the desire to change the current system.

One of the key initiatives of the ACN is the organization of primaries to select candidates who will participate in elections at all levels. The primaries are an internal process that selects the most competent and qualified candidates from the various ACN member organizations.

This participatory approach offers many advantages. First of all, it ensures that the selected candidates are truly representative of the will of the Congolese people and not of particular interests. By allowing citizens to actively participate in the selection of candidates, primaries also strengthen democratic engagement and citizen participation.

In addition, primaries offer an alternative to traditional political practices based on cronyism and corruption. By actively involving citizens in the candidate selection process, the ACN promotes transparency and political accountability.

By organizing the primaries, the ACN sends a strong message to Congolese politicians and the political class in general. She affirms that the time of predatory practices and special interests is over, and that it is time to implement real political change in favor of the Congolese people.

However, this initiative is not limited only to the selection of candidates. The ACN is also committed to leading a fight against anti-values and to promoting a new Congo, based on the values of democracy, social justice and respect for human rights.

In conclusion, the organization of primaries by the ACN constitutes a promising initiative to fight against the predatory governance system in the DRC. By actively involving citizens in the candidate selection process, the ACN gives the Congolese people the opportunity to take back control of their political destiny and build a better future for all..
