“We are all equal” campaign – Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi and Jill Biden launch call to action to close gender inequalities in Africa
As part of the “We are all equal” campaign, Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi, first lady of the Democratic Republic of Congo and vice-president of the Organization of First Ladies of Africa for Development (OPDAD), joined to Jill Biden, First Lady of the United States, to launch a call for action to close gender inequalities in Africa.
This campaign, initiated by OPDAD and based in New York, aims to end gender inequalities in Africa. At the United Nations General Assembly conference, African first ladies reviewed the results of the campaign and discussed actions taken in their respective countries to promote education, maternal and child health, economic empowerment of women and the fight against gender-based sexual violence.
Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi stressed the importance of putting words into action to close the gender gap in Africa. She called on her fellow first ladies not to sacrifice their commitments on the altar of inaction, because future generations will judge them. She also expressed confidence in OPDAD’s ability to achieve its goals through commitment and collective action.
A distinguished guest, Jill Biden, joined the African first ladies in the fight against all forms of discrimination against women. Its presence demonstrates the importance given by the United States to promoting gender equality in Africa.
The “We are all equal” campaign ended on September 14, 2023 and highlighted actions taken in several African countries to improve the well-being of women on the continent. However, there is still much work to be done to reduce gender inequality in Africa, and this campaign calls for concrete and continued action to achieve this goal.
In conclusion, the “We are all equal” campaign launched by OPDAD and supported by Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi and Jill Biden, highlights the importance of closing gender inequalities in Africa. It is time to put words into action and work together to create a more equitable and inclusive future for all.
