Peace and tranquility were recently disturbed in Bena Mpanda, in the Bena Tshimungu groupement, Miabi territory, Kasaï-Oriental. Violent clashes broke out and led to the burning of 37 houses, causing significant damage.
According to the provincial Minister of Interior, Ananias Muzadi Kankonde, these disturbances occurred following the induction of a new village chief. This decision was poorly received by part of the population as well as local notables. Residents expressed their discontent by creating disturbances to public order and burning down homes.
Investigations are currently underway to determine responsibilities and the exact reasons for these clashes. Fortunately, no loss of life was reported, but many residents lost their belongings in the fires.
The provincial minister wanted to recall the importance of peace and living together, thus urging the population to reconciliation and the peaceful resolution of conflicts. Local authorities are also working to put in place enhanced security measures to prevent further incidents and ensure the protection of residents in the region.
