Returnees from Angola in the Kapinga Nkundi village, in Tshikapa, continue to make the news. Many efforts have been made by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to facilitate their integration in this village. Indeed, the UNHCR built shelters and created an environment conducive to their reception.
On a 2,500 hectare site, UNHCR has erected 240 shelters for returnees from Angola who have settled in this village. At the same time, other essential infrastructure was built to meet the needs of this population, including a school for children.
Last Saturday, the UNHCR representative in the DRC, Angèle Dikongué Atangana, inaugurated a health post there. This initiative aims to ensure quality health coverage for returnees from Angola. A step forward welcomed by the interim governor of Kasai province, Gaston Nkole, who underlined the importance of these beneficial actions for the families concerned.
At the same time, a water borehole was also inaugurated to improve access to this essential resource. This approach demonstrates UNHCR’s commitment to providing decent living conditions for returnees from Angola in the Kapinga Nkundi village.
The objective is to allow these people to reintegrate and rebuild their lives in favorable conditions. This UNHCR action constitutes a concrete example of support and solidarity towards displaced populations, as well as an effective response to the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
The fight for the integration and well-being of returnees from Angola in the Kapinga Nkundi village is a priority for UNHCR and demonstrates their commitment to supporting vulnerable communities in their search for stability and dignity.
Thanks to these initiatives, returnees from Angola now have a new starting point to rebuild their lives and envision a better future. This approach to support and accompaniment demonstrates the importance of international solidarity in facing humanitarian challenges and promoting the sustainable development of communities affected by crises.
The visit of the UNHCR representative to the DRC and the inauguration of the health post and the water borehole constitute essential steps in this integration process and give hope to those returning from Angola in their reconstruction journey. Their resilience and determination are thus recognized and supported, thus allowing their dignity and well-being to be gradually restored.
