AFEM recommends that the RTNC channel support women candidates for balanced participation in elections

The Association of Media Women (AFEM) recently issued an essential recommendation to the public television channel RTNC: support women candidates in the upcoming elections. This recommendation, formulated by the president of the AFEM Board of Directors, Caddy Adzuba, during a press café in Bukavu (South Kivu), aims to support female participation in the electoral process.

During this electoral period, AFEM is working to raise awareness and support women so that they become aware of their role and their place during the elections. Indeed, it is essential that women are fully involved and represented in political life for a more balanced and inclusive democracy.

However, Caddy Adzuba highlights that women’s participation in the electoral process is declining, particularly due to an electoral system that hinders their engagement. It is necessary to remedy this situation by putting in place measures aimed at promoting the participation and access of women to the different stages of the electoral process.

This AFEM recommendation is all the more relevant given that the promotion of women’s rights is a major issue. In December 2022, AFEM had already raised awareness among the population of Bukavu on the impact of domestic violence on the promotion of women’s rights, as part of the “16 days of activism against gender-based violence” campaign.

It is encouraging to see that organizations such as AFEM are actively involved in supporting and accompanying women in their political journey. This recommendation to RTNC is therefore an important step towards more egalitarian political participation and a fairer society.

It is essential that all stakeholders, whether media, political institutions or civil society, work together to ensure true equal opportunities and balanced representation of women in the political landscape.

In conclusion, AFEM, through its recommendation to RTNC, highlights the importance of supporting women candidates and encouraging their participation in elections. This approach helps to strengthen democracy and promote a more inclusive and egalitarian society. It is essential that all actors in society commit to this path in order to create an environment conducive to women’s political participation.
