The Mboté Hip-Hop Festival: an essential celebration of urban culture in Brazzaville

Brazzaville, the capital of Congo, resonated with the sound of urban rhythms during the seventh edition of the Mboté Hip-Hop festival. Organized by the French Institute of Congo (IFC), this event brought together Congolese and Ivorian artists in an electric atmosphere.

On the stage of the IFC Esplanade, lit by captivating light shows, the artists of the Street Art Congo group offered a captivating show. Dressed in black, they ignited an audience mainly made up of young enthusiasts.

One of the members of the group, Sonick, expresses his pride in participating in this festival: “Dance in Congo is not often highlighted. This is why we are proud to participate in Mboté Hip-Hop. It’s a real honor for us.”

Among the artists present, Bak-Dan, a true Hip-Hop star, sent a strong message through his music. Wearing a t-shirt bearing the inscription “Rap saves”, he wanted to raise awareness among his audience about the dangers of hemp consumption: “In my music, I denounce the harmful effects of hemp smoke on the lungs . I want to help young people take care of their health. If you listen to my music, you will be motivated to stop. I will have saved you.”

Among the spectators, Ashanti, her eyes glued to her phone, lets herself be carried away by the energy of the festival. She says: “I came to see Congolese artists perform. It’s nice to see our local talents put forward. It’s truly a unique experience.”

The Mboté Hip-Hop Festival offers a real platform of expression to emerging artists. The organizers and participants have already made an appointment for the eighth edition, scheduled for next year.
