Pro-EU mobilization in London: thousands of Britons demand return to the European Union

Title: Pro-EU mobilization in London for the return of the United Kingdom to the European Union

Introduction :
Last Saturday, thousands of Britons gathered in London to demonstrate in favor of the United Kingdom’s return to the European Union in an event called the National Rejoin March. This demonstration, which aimed to express support for the EU, brought together participants from all walks of life, all united in their belief that Brexit was a failure. According to a YouGov poll, more than 60% of Britons share this opinion.

A rally in favor of returning to the EU:
Protesters gathered in Parliament Square, where a giant screen displayed in large letters “We want our star back”. European flags and flags representing EU member countries were waved with pride, while Beethoven’s Ode to Joy was played by a bagpipe player. Signs with strong messages such as “Tories out, join the EU” and “Freedom of movement” were everywhere, accompanied by “fuck Brexit” stickers.

Voices that are heard:
Among the demonstrators, Rachel Ashley, head of a local association for EU reintegration, expressed her anger towards the media which she accused of selling “indignation pornography”. She said many people who voted for Brexit in 2016 are now “genuinely mortified” and realizing the consequences of their vote. Frances Smith, a 68-year-old retiree, laments depriving her children and grandchildren of their EU membership. She questions the decision to leave the largest market for another market further away, putting the environment and the British economy at risk.

A general feeling of regret:
According to a YouGov poll carried out in August, more than 60% of Britons believe that Brexit is a failure. However, holding a referendum this year is not unanimous, with 59% of those questioned opposing it. However, 46% of respondents would be in favor of organizing a referendum in 10 years. Young protesters such as 19-year-old Elowenn Tuhill want to have their say, while others say a new vote should be held taking into account the new information.

Conclusion :
The pro-EU mobilization in London demonstrated the strong desire of many Britons to see the United Kingdom join the European Union again. The demonstration, marked by strong participation and powerful messages, reveals a feeling of regret and concern about the consequences of Brexit. Although the path towards a possible return to the EU remains uncertain, this mobilization highlights the importance of taking into account the voices of those who believe that Brexit was a mistake.
