The Africa Land Policy Conference, organized by the African Center for Land Policy (CLPA), will be held in Addis Ababa next November. Under the theme “Promoting sustainable land governance in Africa to accelerate the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area”, this fifth edition of the conference aims to strengthen capacities for the development, implementation and monitoring of land policies in Africa.
In partnership with the Ethiopian government, CLPA brings together experts from government, academia, research and other non-state actors to promote improved land governance and land policy in Africa. This year, the conference is adopting a hybrid format, mixing virtual and physical sessions.
The choice of the theme of the conference is in line with that of the African Union for the year 2023: “Acceleration of the implementation of the AfCFTA”. There is a need to mobilize political actors to ensure the effective establishment of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and reap the benefits it offers to African citizens. This conference will promote best practices in responsive and responsible land policies, inclusive and transparent land governance, as well as the establishment of effective land administration institutions.
The dialogue and exchanges during the conference will also promote the strengthening of partnerships, networks and resources for land governance in Africa. The ultimate objective is to contribute to the achievement of the aspirations and goals of the African Union Agenda 2063.
With the participation of experts from different fields, the conference will provide a platform for discussion and knowledge sharing to advance land policies in Africa. This is a unique opportunity to bring together key stakeholders, develop effective strategies and lay the foundations for sustainable and equitable development.
In conclusion, the Conference on Land Policies in Africa in Addis Ababa in November 2023 is an unmissable event for all stakeholders involved in promoting sustainable land governance in Africa. This is an opportunity to share best practices, build capacity and promote the implementation of evidence-based land policies. By working together, we can accelerate the implementation of the AfCFTA and contribute to Africa’s development.
