The power of living together: promoting peace despite our differences

In a constantly changing world where tensions and conflicts are commonplace, the promotion of peace becomes a top priority. It is in this context that the celebration of the International Day of Peace takes on particular importance, reminding everyone of the urgency of building a peaceful future.

This year, under the theme “Action for Peace: Our Ambitions for Sustainable Goals”, the International Day of Peace was marked by celebrations and inspiring speeches across the world. In the Democratic Republic of Congo, UNESCO representative Isaias Barreto Da Rosa urged the Congolese to promote peace by encouraging living together despite their cultural, religious and other differences. A strong message which reminds us that diversity should not be an obstacle, but a force that unites people.

During this day, MONUSCO and the agencies of the United Nations system in the DRC also organized a solemn ceremony to mark the importance of peace in the country. In his speech, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, Peter Kazadi, reiterated the government’s efforts to restore peace and security in the eastern part of the country, affected by Rwandan aggression. He stressed that the return of peace to this region will promote the sustainable development of the DRC, thus paving the way for a better future for all Congolese.

Beyond official speeches, it is essential that each individual contribute in their own way to the promotion of peace. By banning disinformation and hate speech, we can create an environment conducive to mutual understanding and peaceful conflict resolution. Peace is a daily work, which requires constant commitment from each of us.

So, how can we act in favor of peace in our daily lives? First of all, it is important to cultivate a mentality of tolerance and open-mindedness. By accepting and respecting the differences of others, we build bridges rather than walls. Then we can actively engage in peaceful actions, such as resolving conflicts constructively and promoting intercultural dialogue.

Peace is not limited to the absence of armed conflict, it is also a question of social justice, respect for human rights and sustainable development. By working together to achieve these goals, we can create a world where peace is a reality for all.

In conclusion, the International Day of Peace reminds us of the importance of promoting peace in our world. By promoting living together despite our differences, banning disinformation and hate speech, and actively acting to resolve conflicts, we can contribute to building a peaceful and sustainable future. It is our responsibility to make peace a reality, for ourselves, for future generations and for all humanity.
