News: Nagorno-Karabakh separatists engaged in negotiations for the withdrawal of their troops
The separatists of Nagorno-Karabakh are currently engaged in negotiations with Azerbaijan in order to implement the withdrawal of their troops from this region mainly populated by Armenians. This comes three days after the conclusion of a ceasefire between the two sides. In addition to this, the separatists must also hand over their weapons.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, armed formations in Karabakh have already begun to hand over their weapons and military equipment to Russian peacekeeping forces. So far, six armored vehicles, more than 800 light and anti-tank weapons as well as nearly 5,000 munitions have already been handed over. These actions are part of the cessation of hostilities agreements.
At the same time, the two sides are continuing negotiations, under the supervision of Russian peacekeepers, to organize the withdrawal of troops and facilitate the return of citizens displaced by the clashes. The separatists and Azerbaijan are also discussing entry and exit arrangements for citizens of the Nagorno-Karabakh region.
Despite the ceasefire, the situation remains precarious in Stepanakert, the “capital” of Nagorno Karabakh. According to on-site testimonies, Azerbaijani troops have surrounded the city and the population finds itself in a situation of distress. Stepanakert is deprived of electricity and fuel, residents lack food and medicine, and many people are hiding in cellars to escape the violence.
Germany, for its part, calls for respect for the rights of the inhabitants of Nagorno-Karabakh. The spokesperson for the German Chancellor stressed the importance of guaranteeing the rights and security of the population in order to achieve a lasting solution to the conflict.
At the same time, Azerbaijan has pledged to provide aid and care for injured separatist soldiers. Ambulances authorized to travel from Armenia to Nagorno-Karabakh will be made available by the International Committee of the Red Cross.
It is obvious that the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh remains extremely complex and worrying. The ongoing negotiations and troop withdrawal actions are essential to restore peace in this conflict-ridden region. It is therefore essential to continue to closely monitor the development of this news.
