Kwango province is facing an alarming situation of violence perpetrated by the Mobondo militia. Living conditions in Kwango province have deteriorated considerably since the emergence of the Mobondo phenomenon in Greater Bandundu. Kwango civil society expresses its dismay at this untenable situation. Symphorien Kwengo, vice-president of Kwango civil society, says: “We will never stop pleading with national and provincial authorities for a round table to be organized. It is essential that stakeholders meet to confront the members of the Mobondo militia and ask them what they are really looking for when they take life so easily.”

Attacks by the Mobondo militia have become increasingly frequent and deadly. “Every two or three weeks, the Mobondo kill,” laments Symphorien Kwengo. According to him, the Mobondo militia is a phenomenon created from scratch by certain people who profit from it. It is therefore essential to engage in dialogue in order to understand the motivations of militia members and find lasting solutions.

This request comes three days after an attack by the Mobondo militia in the village of Muloshie, in Kenge territory, during which 15 soldiers from the 11th military region of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo were killed.
