French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna recently spoke at the United Nations General Assembly in New York. In her speech, she announced a contribution of 1.6 billion euros to finance the activity of the Green Climate Fund for the period 2024-2027. This initiative is part of France’s commitments to the fight against global warming and solidarity with vulnerable countries.
The Green Climate Fund was created in 2010 and has become one of the main instruments of international solidarity in the fight against global warming. It aims to help developing countries implement adaptation and mitigation actions to the effects of climate change.
France’s contribution comes as part of the second replenishment of the Fund, which will be held in Bonn, Germany on October 5. This new announcement demonstrates France’s strong commitment to the ecological transition and environmental protection.
In addition to this financial contribution, Catherine Colonna also underlined France’s global commitment in terms of aid to countries in difficulty. She notably mentioned the exceeding of financial commitment promises on the climate, with an increase of almost a billion euros, bringing the total amount to 7.6 billion euros in 2022.
In terms of food security, France has also doubled its contribution to the World Food Program (WFP), bringing French food aid to nearly one billion euros, thus benefiting 67 countries.
Catherine Colonna further expressed her confidence in African solutions to African crises. This approach highlights the importance of the autonomy of African countries in resolving the problems that concern them.
This speech by the French Minister of Foreign Affairs reflects France’s commitment to international solidarity and environmental protection. It also highlights the importance of cooperation and trust in developing countries to address global challenges such as climate change. France thus affirms its desire to act collectively to protect our planet and ensure a sustainable future for all.
