Terrorist attacks perpetrated by suspected members of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) in Uganda have caused consternation in the Bandavilemba region in the Walese-Vonkutu chiefdom. In the space of 24 hours, three attacks were recorded, with tragic consequences for local populations.
In the village of Ndimo-Mahala, an attack took place on Sunday evening, followed by attacks in Mambelenga and Idohu the next morning. Provisional figures unfortunately report several losses of human life, with 9 civilians killed and many houses burned.
Faced with these acts of terror, civil society and the CRDH (Convention for the Respect of Human Rights) condemned these barbaric actions and called for an immediate response from the competent authorities. The intervention of the FARDC-UPDF coalition was welcomed, but more efforts are needed to eradicate the persistent ADF threat in the Irumu region.
The military administrator of Irumu territory reassured the population by affirming that the situation was under control of the regular army. However, he also expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and promised to investigate these attacks in order to take necessary measures to strengthen security in the region.
It is crucial to highlight the courage and professionalism of the defense and security forces who limited the damage, but it is essential to continue efforts to guarantee the security of local populations. These terrorist attacks are a stark reminder of the need to remain vigilant and cooperate to combat terrorism in the region.
In conclusion, the attacks carried out by the ADF in Uganda are a tragic reminder of the continued presence of terrorist groups in the region. It is imperative that relevant authorities intensify their efforts to eliminate this threat and ensure the safety of local populations.
