Training in cultural entrepreneurship in the DRC: Strengthening the capacities of cultural operators

In an approach aimed at promoting cultural entrepreneurship in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), around ten cultural operators benefited from intensive training. This initiative, which took place from September 4 to 8 at the Contemporary Platform, in the commune of Barumbu, aims to strengthen the capacities of cultural actors in a promising but under-exploited sector.

The training, provided by Éric Rodrigue Fabrice Loembert, cultural expert specializing in the management of cultural businesses, focused on the principles of governability and management of cultural projects. The 16 participants, coming from the Cultural Promotion Fund, the Le Zoo cultural center, the Contemporary Platform as well as private structures, were able to develop their skills and knowledge in the creation and management of cultural businesses.

The objective of this training was to enable cultural operators to promote local know-how and traditional culture, while developing projects with a real impact in terms of employability, the fight against poverty and social development.

For participants, this training is of great importance because it allows them to acquire the necessary knowledge to be competitive in a growing cultural market. Kabessa Pekas, one of the participants, particularly emphasizes the importance of knowing the essential tools for creating and managing cultural businesses, which are not taught in traditional artistic courses.

Beyond training, a network was created to promote exchanges between cultural actors and continue capacity development. This network will allow participants to share news, invite each other and continue to grow the cultural and creative industries in the DRC.

This training is part of the “Move for Change” program, which aims to strengthen the skills of cultural actors in various fields, including dance, theater and cultural entrepreneurship. This program, initiated by the cultural company Likit’arts Kongo and the Dutch training center Grand Cru Global, offers participants intensive training and concrete opportunities to develop their artistic and entrepreneurial careers.

In conclusion, training in cultural entrepreneurship in the DRC represents an essential opportunity for the country’s cultural operators. By strengthening their skills and knowledge, they will be able to develop innovative cultural projects and promote the cultural wealth of the DRC, while contributing to job creation and social development.
