The modernization of the RN1 Mbuji-Mayi-Kananga road: a big step forward for the road infrastructure of the DRC

The modernization of the RN1 national road Mbuji-Mayi-Kananga is finally underway. Work began on Saturday August 26 in Mbuji-Mayi, with the main objective of widening this vital route. The company in charge of this work has begun dismantling the infrastructure that hindered its expansion.

The first clearance operations began at the Petrombu roundabout, in the commune of Bipemba. Among the main obstacles to be eliminated are a large water pipe from REGIDESO, the piping from the Associations of Users of Water Distribution Networks (ASSUREP), as well as optical fiber. From houses built on the road right-of-way, the electrical poles of the National Electricity Company (SNEL) and those carrying the solar street lights will also be removed.

During a meeting between the provincial authority and the company responsible for the works, the provincial minister of public works and infrastructure stressed the importance of coordination between the company and the offices responsible for the infrastructure concerned. The objective is to avoid any disruption to the internet connection, water cuts and overflows of runoff water.

This news of the modernization of the RN1 Mbuji-Mayi-Kananga road is excellent news for the inhabitants of the region. By improving the quality and safety of this route, it will facilitate travel and promote the economic development of the region. This represents a major step forward for the road infrastructure of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
