News: Cooperation between the DRC and Kenya in the fight against armed groups
In a summit of defense ministers held in Goma, the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo expressed its willingness to cooperate with Kenya in the fight against armed and terrorist groups that are destabilizing the eastern region . The Deputy Prime Minister of National Defense, Jean-Pierre Bemba Gombo, stressed the importance of sincere cooperation between the two countries to face this common threat.
The DRC, faced with insecurity and terrorism, wishes to benefit from the support and cooperation of Kenya, considered a friendly country. This cooperation is essential, as the consequences of instability in the region can spread to other neighboring countries. The Congolese government therefore calls on Kenya to sincerely support the DRC in this crisis of aggression that it is experiencing.
The Deputy Prime Minister also expressed his gratitude to Kenya for already deploying troops in support of the DRC. He also praised the vision and commitment of President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi in the search for solutions and the strengthening of ties between the two countries.
In this context, resolutions were adopted during the summit, notably the establishment of a DRC-Kenya joint commission responsible for monitoring the implementation of the military cooperation agreement signed in 2021. This commission will also be responsible the formalization of military training activities carried out by Kenyan instructors within the Congolese armed forces.
The Kenyan Minister of Defense, Aden Barre Duale, reaffirmed Kenya’s desire to maintain strong bilateral cooperation with the DRC, both in the fight against armed groups and in that of the African Community. East (EAC).
This summit marks an important step in the collaboration between the DRC and Kenya to confront the insecurity that threatens the eastern region. The enhanced military cooperation between the two countries will not only help ensure peace in the DRC, but also strengthen ties between the two peoples.
The fight against armed and terrorist groups therefore remains a priority for the DRC and Kenya, who are determined to work together to guarantee the security and stability of the East African region. This sincere and mutually beneficial cooperation opens new perspectives for the resolution of the crisis and the development of the region.
