“SICOMINES renovates the Kapata district office to improve the community’s living conditions”

The population of the Kapata district, in the commune of Dilala, province of Lualaba in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), recently celebrated the official inauguration of their brand new office, completely rehabilitated thanks to the intervention of the Sino-Congolese mines (SICOMINES). This rehabilitation is part of a five-year agreement signed in August 2021 between the local community and the mining company.

Kapata Ward Head Dikubi Musa expressed satisfaction at the long-awaited achievement. He pointed out that the previous office was in a state of disrepair, resembling more of a hangar. He thus expressed his gratitude to SICOMINES for having transformed the needs of the population into a concrete project.

The renovated office represents an important meeting point for residents of the community, who can now receive and welcome visitors from all walks of life. The first vice-president of the local committee for monitoring the SICOMINES specifications, Ilunga Mwinkeu, also underlined the importance of this rehabilitation for the entire community. He recalled that SICOMINES had already responded to numerous projects, including the construction of a technical school, a health center, and agricultural mechanization. Other projects, such as the rehabilitation of a water tower and the construction of standpipes to supply drinking water to the Kapata district, are also underway.

The mayor of the commune of Dilala, Ms. Françoise Mangweji, expressed her gratitude to SICOMINES for its constant support and solutions to the population’s problems. She stressed that this rehabilitation was an important step to enhance the Kapata district and improve the working conditions of its residents. She expressed the hope that this fruitful collaboration will continue and benefit other districts of the municipality.

The official handover ceremony of the renovated office took place in the presence of the mayor of the city of Kolwezi, Jacques Masengo Kindele. This renovation demonstrates SICOMINES’ commitment to respecting its commitments to local communities and contributing to the socio-economic development of the region.

In summary, the rehabilitation of the Kapata district office by SICOMINES represents an important step in improving infrastructure and the living conditions of residents. This fruitful collaboration between the mining company and the local community demonstrates SICOMINES’ commitment to sustainable development and the well-being of local populations.
