“Return of the displaced and progress towards peace in Ituri: a glimmer of hope after the dialogue between the authorities and the armed groups”

The displaced people of the Bayana group in Ituri are finally returning to their homes after a period of instability. This lull is the result of a dialogue between the 32nd military region, the territorial authorities, the leaders of the FPIC armed group and the Bira community. A roaming mission by Major General Peter Cirimwami in the group enabled this progress.

During these discussions, Peter Cirimwami encouraged elements of the armed group to join the disarmament and reintegration program to promote peace. He stressed the importance of voluntary surrender rather than waiting for military intervention.

The head of the Bayana group, Abdou Ihana Biyabo, also called on other displaced people to return to their homes. He advocated for the reconstruction of destroyed schools and sought government support for the needs of his community.

This situation marks a positive step forward in the quest for stability and reconciliation in Ituri. The displaced can finally return home and participate in the development process of their region. However, there is still work to be done to ensure lasting peace and the reconstruction of destroyed infrastructure.

This news is encouraging and shows the importance of dialogue and cooperation to resolve conflicts. Let us hope that this trend will continue and that disarmament and reintegration efforts will be strengthened to promote the stability and development of Ituri.
